Apple Adds New 'Liquid Glass' Transparency Option in iOS 27 Beta

 

Apple has introduced a "Liquid Glass" transparency setting in the iOS 27 beta, according to WIRED. The feature lets beta users change the transparency of interface elements across iOS, including notifications and interface overlays.

The update includes a "More Clear" configuration option. WIRED's Reece Rogers reported from hands-on testing that enabling maximum transparency causes incoming notification banners to warp underlying app icons before fading, creating a glass-like refraction effect.

How the Feature Works

The Liquid Glass setting applies real-time visual distortion to home screen elements. When notifications appear, the edges of underlying icons distort temporarily and then return to their standard appearance once the notification clears.

Users enrolled in Apple's iOS 27 beta testing program can currently access the setting. Apple has not said whether the feature will change before iOS 27 is released publicly.
