Google Confirms Pixel 11 Price Hike Due to Global RAM Crisis

Smartphone buyers are about to face a harsh financial reality: Google has officially confirmed that upcoming Pixel 11 models—and even current in-market devices—will see dynamic price adjustments as a crippling global memory shortage sends component costs skyrocketing.

In an interview with 9to5Google, Google’s Vice President of Devices and Services, Shakil Barkat, revealed that the company can no longer absorb unprecedented supply chain shocks. Pointing to data from Morgan Stanley, Barkat noted a staggering sixfold increase in component expenses, with the price of 1 GB of RAM surging from $2.80 in 2025 to $12 this year.

“There’s never been an increase in memory prices like the world’s going through right now,” Barkat said. “We’ve shielded our consumers from supply fluctuations for as long as possible... [but] the economics have fundamentally shifted and we’re not immune to that.”

What the Crisis Means for the Pixel 11 Lineup

While Google is keeping precise figures under wraps ahead of its official August 12 hardware event, the company confirmed that price shifts will roll out dynamically across the entire Pixel ecosystem.

Industry leaks point to immediate consequences:

• The Pro Tier Compromise: To manage component costs, the entry-level Pixel 11 Pro is rumored to drop from 16 GB of RAM down to 12 GB.

• Price Bumps: Both the standard Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro are expected to see a $100 starting price increase, though rumors suggest a baseline storage bump to 256 GB to soften the blow. Models like the Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold are slated for a straightforward $100 price hike.

• In-Market Disruption: Barkat confirmed the crisis will also impact existing devices already on shelves—implying changes for mid-range mainstays like the Pixel 10a, which is only halfway through its lifecycle.

To cushion the blow, Google insists it remains committed to accessibility through aggressive trade-in offers, seasonal promotions, and bundled perks like Google One subscriptions.

Engineering Out of the Crisis: Android’s RAM Diet

Passing supplier costs to consumers is only half of Google’s strategy. Behind closed doors, the company has initiated a “dedicated effort” to engineer its way out of the hardware bottleneck.
