Battery life remains one of the biggest considerations for smartwatch buyers. While Apple and Samsung both advertise all-day battery performance for their latest smartwatches, independent reviews indicate that real-world endurance can vary depending on testing conditions and how each device is used.

According to Apple, the Apple Watch Series 11 delivers up to 24 hours of battery life under typical use and up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode. Samsung says the Galaxy Watch 8 provides up to 30 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Independent Tests Report Different Results

Battery tests conducted by independent reviewers have produced results that differ from the manufacturers' published estimates.

According to PCMag, the Galaxy Watch 8 recorded about 26 hours of battery life during the publication's testing. The same publication reported that the Apple Watch Series 11 achieved a longer runtime under its testing conditions than Apple's standard battery estimate.

CNET also evaluated both smartwatches and reported battery life of roughly 30 hours, with results varying depending on usage and testing conditions.

Because each publication uses its own testing methodology, these figures should not be considered directly comparable.

Official Battery Claims

SmartwatchManufacturer's Battery Claim
Apple Watch Series 11                          Up to 24 hours (up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode)
Samsung Galaxy Watch 8Up to 30 hours

Apple's and Samsung's battery estimates are based on their own testing procedures. Actual battery life varies depending on device settings, usage patterns and environmental conditions.

Why Battery Results Can Vary

Several factors can influence smartwatch battery performance, including:

  • Screen brightness
  • Always-On Display
  • GPS usage
  • Cellular connectivity
  • Workout tracking
  • Sleep monitoring
  • Heart-rate and health tracking
  • Notification frequency
  • Power-saving settings

Different testing environments may emphasize different combinations of these features, leading to varying battery results.

Which Watch Fits Your Needs?

The Apple Watch Series 11 is designed for users within Apple's ecosystem and requires a compatible iPhone. It offers integration with Apple's health, fitness and communication features.

The Galaxy Watch 8 is designed primarily for Samsung Galaxy smartphones and supported Android devices, providing access to Samsung Health and other Galaxy ecosystem features.

Battery life is only one factor when comparing the two devices. Buyers may also consider smartphone compatibility, software features, health tracking capabilities and pricing before making a purchasing decision.
