Meta has begun rolling out new capabilities for its Meta AI service in select global markets, allowing the chatbot to automate certain user-defined tasks, according to a report by Reuters citing company announcements.

The social media platform stated that the updated assistant uses the company's new Muse Spark 1.1 model, which is designed to understand user context and execute tasks without needing constant step-by-step instructions.

"This is our next step toward personal superintelligence: an AI that knows your context, is there for you whenever you need it," Meta said in an official blog post regarding the update.

Core Capabilities in the New Release

Meta said the update includes the following core capabilities:

  • Daily Briefings: Meta said the assistant can summarize calendar events to deliver regular morning overviews.

  • Recurring Automation: Meta said users can set up recurring tasks, such as weekly meal plans or regular trend updates.

  • Seller App Launch: Separately, Meta introduced "Seller," a standalone mobile application offering dedicated tools for merchants using Facebook Marketplace.

Availability and Privacy Controls

The initial rollout is taking place in select geographic markets through the standalone Meta AI application and the meta.ai website. Meta plans to expand these capabilities to additional regions and messaging services, including WhatsApp, in subsequent phases.

Regarding privacy management for automated features, the company said users retain control over how they interact with the assistant. Meta confirmed that incognito chat modes remain available for unrecorded private interactions.

The product update arrives ahead of Meta's second-quarter financial results, scheduled for release after market close on July 29.
