OnePlus is realigning its global strategy, with the company announcing that it will no longer launch new devices in Europe and North America as part of a broader strategic shift. Oppo is set to consolidate the companies' combined capabilities, product philosophies, and technical resources to streamline operations in these regions.

A Shift in Strategy

For several years, industry observers have pointed to a cooling in OnePlus's product cadence in the West, highlighted by the cancellation of the OnePlus Open 2 foldable and the increasing prevalence of Oppo's flagship releases.

The decision to realign OnePlus's operations under Oppo is being framed by both companies as a move to unify their product and technology pipelines. This integration is further solidified by corporate leadership changes, such as OnePlus co-founder Peter Lau rejoining Oppo as Chief Product Officer. Given that the two entities have shared hardware, software, and supply chain resources for years, the companies describe this as a consolidation of assets rather than a sudden corporate upheaval.

What This Means for Current Users

OnePlus device owners in North America and Europe should not face immediate disruption. The company says existing customer support and software update commitments will remain in place.

  • After-Sales Support: Existing service channels will remain operational to support current customers.

  • Software Updates: Product and software maintenance will continue to be honored for current owners.

  • ColorOS Transition: Looking forward, Oppo has indicated that ColorOS is expected to roll out to eligible OnePlus devices across Europe and North America in the coming months, replacing OxygenOS over time.

Oppo’s Path Forward in Europe

While OnePlus is realigning its regional presence, Oppo intends to maintain a focus on these markets. Elvis Zhou, CEO of Oppo Europe, affirmed that Europe remains a "key market," noting that the company is proactively enhancing its regional teams.

Despite this commitment, Oppo has faced challenges in achieving the same brand recognition in the West that OnePlus previously enjoyed. Although the Find X9 Ultra was positioned as a major European launch, retail availability for Oppo’s flagship offerings has been inconsistent. With the consolidation of OnePlus’s regional footprint, the move suggests Oppo may place greater emphasis on future flagship launches in Europe, supported by a recently relaunched UK online portal. As of now, Oppo has indicated no plans to launch its smartphone lineup in the United States.
