Samsung is preparing one of its strictest lock-screen security changes in years.
If you own a Galaxy device eligible for the upcoming One UI 9 update (based on Android 17), failing to enter your correct backup PIN, pattern, or password could eventually leave a factory reset as your only way to regain access.
The policy tightens lock-screen protection by reducing total allowed authentication attempts while strictly enforcing escalating lockout timers between tries. The objective is clear: make stolen Galaxy smartphones significantly harder to breach using automated attack tools. But for legitimate owners who rely almost entirely on fingerprint unlock and occasionally forget their backup passcodes, the update introduces real daily friction.
