Nvidia and Microsoft Expected to Unveil First Nvidia-Powered Windows PCs Next Week

AI chipmaker Nvidia and Microsoft are expected to introduce the first Windows PCs powered by Nvidia-designed processors next week, according to a report from Axios citing sources familiar with the matter.

The new computers are expected to be released under Microsoft’s Surface lineup as well as by other major manufacturers, including Dell. The announcement is anticipated to take place during the Computex trade show in Taiwan and Microsoft’s Build developer conference in San Francisco.

Microsoft has been working to transition Windows devices toward more power-efficient chip architectures, although those efforts have not yet resulted in a major boost in PC sales. Meanwhile, Apple continues to strengthen its position with its in-house silicon, having launched updated MacBook models featuring its latest M5-series chips earlier this year.

Neither Nvidia nor Microsoft provided details about the reported plans. Nvidia did not respond to requests for comment, while Microsoft declined to comment.

Speculation intensified after the official X accounts of Windows, Nvidia, and Arm posted teasers on Friday hinting at “a new era of PC.” The posts included what appeared to be coordinates pointing to Taipei, Taiwan, where Computex will be held.

Reuters previously reported in 2023 that Nvidia was developing Arm-based processors designed to run Microsoft’s Windows operating system. If launched, the chips would expand competition in the Windows PC market, where Qualcomm currently supplies Arm-based processors and Intel and AMD continue to dominate the CPU segment.

Axios also reported that Microsoft is preparing to unveil new software capabilities that would allow AI agents to perform tasks directly on Windows PCs, bringing more AI processing to users’ devices rather than relying solely on cloud services.
